Bobby Police Launch
« on: April 13, 2015, 06:41:57 pm »

Hi Guys!!!!
I decided to start a new project, a Bobby Police Launch, the plans are for free in the net, it is a simple design, but my objective is to make her with no wood, I’m using expanded PVC (known as sintra too) and styrene. The plan mark that she should be built with balsa wood, most of them ¼”, the PVC is about 1/8”, so I’ll have to glue two layers.
The original plans was inside the July 1977 Model Boats Magazine, to print them I had to reduce to 30% the archive

 Hello!!!!
Thank you guys for your comments
The next step was to make and install the keel (it is in two parts), these are made with PVC, then made the hole for the prop tube, by now I’m gluing both sides of the boat, this is with styrene

Hello!!!
After ending the bottom of the hull, I noticed that the expanded PVC use to keep all the scratches, even if you make them with the nail., my intention was to let it in the deck because of his texture, but I found out this inconvenience and already have some little scratches, so decided to use a thin styrene that I have in stock.

Make the rudder longer to line up with the lower edge of the prop.
A little wider would be OK too.

Hello!!!
By now I'm working on the cabins roof, as I'm using styrene it's a little difficult to glue it because of the rigidity of the material, I was thinking about using a thinner material but the one I have is too much thin and don't want to buy a new canvas, so I had the idea to use a couple of small  presses through the width size in order to bend the material as was needed then glue it. As I only have two presses needed to do it by segments

Cabin
« Reply #19 on: April 30, 2015, 10:33:46 pm »

Hello!!!!!
The next thing I did was the front of the cabin, Don't know you guys, but I made as the plans said and the sides didn't fit anywhere  <:( , I had to do it again, first I made it with cardboard a little bit bigger and show it up to the rest of the cabin to in order to give it the needed size, at the end everything fits all right  ;)

Hello!!!
The next thing I did was the cabin roof, the same way as the rest of the cabin, had to use the two presses, at the end I let it a small sun shade in the front
I even installed the belt that goes around the cabin

Hi escipion, no picture but I fitted a 3mm x 3mm. spray rail starting 6cm down from the bow and arriving at the lowest level of the hull at 23 cms from bow, continuing to the stern, it also protects the corners.
The waterline follows this down (it is curved) lower hull colour below this spray rail.  Then I continued the waterline at about 6cm down from deck.
If your boat is fast you will benefit from a spray rail.
Sorry noy replied before but I have been on holiday.
regards Roy

Thank you very much Roy, really appreciate all the information  :-)) .
I was thinking about using a spray rail in the top of the hull to protect her, but you have an interesting idea.
I'm planing using a speed 400 electric motor, don't know how fast she will run. Other problem is that my little daughter (6 years old) is telling everybody that it's going to be her boat  <*< , so maybe I'll try not to do a fast boat and think about putting both spray rails. I´ll keep in mind the distance of the waterline that you are telling me

I'm extremely grateful
Best regards
