Carson Poison truck motor
« on: April 17, 2015, 02:57:46 pm »

One for Tug Kenny or any other Tamiya truck men...

I'm going to use the above motor in X9 driving a 35mm or a 40mm 3 blade brass prop. I know the Tamiya trucks run off 7.2v battery packs, but my question is, would I be ok increasing the battery pack up to 8.4v? I'm just thinking of having a smidgeon more power should I need to do crash dive to avoid any short sighted skimmer pilots.... %)

You won't need more power, it'll have more than enough grunt on 7.2 NimH or 7.4 volts lipo.

Fair enough...thanks Andy. What sort of run time could I expect to get out of a 7.2v 3700a/h nimh pack? Any ideas?

I had the same motor in a tamiya King Hauler 1:16 truck and I used to get a good 20mins out of a 3200MAH 7.2V Nimh with light and sound

That sounds good to me, E2V...a couple of spare packs in my tool box will keep me going for a whole session of sailing, then.

Excellent...cheers, m'dear..

No problem, reckon on 30 mins in a boat with no lights and sounds

Yes to all of the above.   :-))

You may be pleasantly surprised by a longer run time as there is no gearbox to go through in the boat world.

Cheers

I'm tempted to build another truck but need to clear the shelves of the "I'll get to it one day models" first
