I didn't think it's legal on a British non-divided (dual carriageway)  road to have two different speed limits.... maybe not!

I think you are Dave!  Why paint a speed limit sign on a road before the speed limit takes effect? This one (50) is a good mile from the next 50 limit! The roads department around here has gone amuck in the past 6 months, changing speed limits willy-nilly. On this stretch the road is limited to 60 - the idiots forgot to remove the 50 when they changed it! Actually, there is another one several hundred yards further along - still in the de-restricted road!

Hi Nemo.
Must admit that I found it suspicious that there weren't any "lollipop" derestriction signs showing but thought they might be out of shot. Would be interesting to know if anybody has been "done" for speeding on this section. Ie 60mph in a 50 limit.

Dave.

I have a feeling that if WE eliminate all the safety devices incorporated in cars today, eg Side impact systems, safety belts, airbags, laminated glass, early warning systems, ice warning, navigation, crush zones etc, and have a BIG,
Stainless Steel spike on the steering wheel aimed at the drivers forehead.
Then you watch the driving speeds slow down and a bit of forward thinking improve.

Just my thought.

As my old Driving instructor said, imagine! around the next corner a major accident has just happened, and you have no warning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surely a National Speed Limit sign is the legal requirement
rather than a painted limit on the road surface.

Absolutely Ned. For some reason, around here, the local roads authority seem to think we need reminding every few hundred yards of the required limit, which is already clearly indicated by repeater signs!. They pour white paint all over the roads in this complete waste of taxpayers money, yet in nearby towns, essential road markings have been eroding for many months and are now in most places, invisible! Re my post! >:-o

They will be putting this one up next!

What bugs me is that the powers that be go on and on and on about the dangers of speeding which may be fair enough yet the application of speed limits around the country is extremely inconsistent and nobody seems to acknowledge that. A road can change from 60mph to 30, 40 and 50 like a yoyo just because you have crossed a County boundary. The road and its hazards are exactly the same but the standards applied by the two authorities are very different. Very often this is down to local politics rather than objective assessment.

How about the signs on motorways that say -
THIS CAMERA IS NOT IN USE .

Why have a notice saying that, who cares derrr

Maybe it is the Police being polite and inviting you to speed? (and drive past the next camera that is working so they can claim a fine off you:O)

Not only that Colin. A few weeks ago whilst visiting Chatham, Kent, I was totally confused by road-markings and signs as to which way to turn at a junction, I was forced by heavy traffic to make a quick decision, through no fault of my own, and went straight on - into a bus lane, where I was filmed and fined £30! Highway Robbery indeed! >:-o

It annoys me how many road signs are obscured by bushes and nettles etc. I often think I ought to get out one day with a pair of secaturs, but with my luck, someone will phone the police as thinking I am being a vandal!

Re the original sign, is it actually meant to warn the driver that the road wiggles vertically rather than horizontally? In which case an uneven road warning sign (Looks like a brassiere!) would be better.

 >>:-( Parking signs really love them, not far from me there is a road with permit holders one side and pay and display on the other,as I normally do I put the £3 needed in the machine and stuck it on the windscreen, when I came back I got a parking ticket which said I parked in permit only side, when I looked up the lamp post the council had changed the signs from one side of the road to the other,I appealed( like a lot of other people),I was told that it I was responsible for reading the sign and I had to pay the £120 fine (the ticket had elapsed as I didn't pay it within the time because I appealed) sneaky trick by council to get funds,I was told that they got 150 people who regular park there, just do the maths and that is just one road.........Ray >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

Just write to the local mp and councillors, stating at the next set of elections you are going to campaign to have them blacklisted, have a group of --- ooo, I'd say about 150 people go round all the local shops and put up posters that have the local councillors faces with the words - NOT WELCOME IN THIS PREMISES -  and actively get them un-elected, see how long they put up with that   O0
