Repair advice
« on: May 07, 2015, 09:30:36 pm »

I bought a dirty used Northwind 36, to save it from the junk pile. It was drowned in glue and half finished. But the sails, rigging, rc stuff all OK now but the bulb cover for the keel is distorted along seam  Can' t get it to close when screw the weight into place within the housing. Thinking I would try a filler and close the crack for ever. I think someone has dropped the yacht on the keel, hence crack. Could anyone recommend a proprietary product that would be best.
Reading the advice in the messages, could I say that I have limited skills, or no skill.
Thank you for taking the trouble to read this
Kind regards

Hi Jimmy and welcome to Mayhem.

You sound a typical Mahemer already......getting stuck in.  I would start the filling with epoxy resin and then sand it flat.  Any further little cracks or imperfections can be filled with P38 light from Halfords as it sands easy and smooth.

Have a go and don't forget to post some pictures as you go along.

ps  The security codes will stop when you have over 5 posts....  tehe

Cheers

Hi, is this the plastic cover that goes over the bulb? Take it off and polish up the lead, that is what others do when it cracks. Nemesis
