My job used to take me away a fair bit, but I'd often take a bit of a kit I was working on away with me...had a few strange looks from people when sitting in the truck cab building a boat... %)

I have seriously contemplated doing exactly this  {-)  I haven't as of yet!

Does my job get in the way ?

Yes only slightly, my boats haven't touched the water in 18months although the collection continues to expand somehow.

Only 37 years to retirement and ill be able to sail every day :)

These days running my own company yes it gets in the way rather a lot. By the time I finish in the evenings I have barely enough time to eat dinner before bed.
Last weekend was a great example, ended up working Saturday and the Bank Holiday Monday as something came up.

I also used to drive trucks for a living and, surprisingly, I used to get far more done then that I do now with an office job.

I used to take one of those huge solid plastic toolboxes with me in the cab with all my model boat stuff and supplies and used to build things like the wheelhouses and detail items while waiting for loads or on breaks. Stopped me snacking on junk food and was productive.

Also I used to run an airline off the seat connector to an airbrush (standard £3 ebay line) and could get painting done too. Left only the big hull type items to do at home which greatly speeded up the build of my models as well as the detail level.

Used to be able to have 2 or 3 boats on the go in that job....now I struggle to make time for small bits on one :(
