That is about the same cost as the Victory built a century plus later!

Hi all I've decided to do something different with this and it involves this

It flickers just like a real candle and the other one is kaput so I developed a cunning plan so, off with the transom

can you guess where this is going
drilled out the windows

then removed the rest of the window
yes thats right I'm going to RC it, only joking, lighting up the state cabins.

It looked rude for a second until I recognised what it was! Are you going to illuminate the lantern as well? You can get flickering LEDS.

You can get battery powered 'tea lights', same effect just in a much smaller battery powered package. They're normally 4 for £1 in a  B&M or similar kind of shop. Wargamers build them into cotton wool balls to make burning markers. A couple of them strategically placed within the hull would do the job.

Hi all a small update on this, The transom sticks out past the gallaries on the sides and I didnt like the way Airfix just moulded them flat so I've rounded the edges and reguilded them

also the grills on the prow are not moulded all the way through so I drilled all the holes out.

and I've hacked the candle apart and reconfigured it

She looks very realistic with that subdued gold and black-blue.

Lovely with loads more still to entice us with!

Lovely work Ken! I like the idea you have tried on the sails, it adds a good texture to add paint effects tpo doesn't it.

The animation of your water is excellent Ken. Are you going to add kapok/cotton wool to the wave crests to add spray?

I was going to give it a try also not sure whether  to add a bit of green to the bottoms of the waves, what do you think.

These are handy when you want to simulate fire at sea without the danger of naked flame. On our club illuminated evening last year, my Billings Osberg Longship was adorned for a Viking Funeral with the 'body' laid out surrounded by these lights and some coloured tissue and looked very effective. No use in broad daylight though!

Hi all well I know nothing about rigging so I'm going to do a cross between the Airfix instructions and ones I've downloaded off the internet (I could not possibly do them the way they are supposed to be, I don't have a clue as to where to start) I dont even know what the different lines are called.

also I bought this to do the ratlines with

but This came with the Airfix Wasa kit

which would be the easiest to use.

I know there was Standing Rigging such as the Shrouds (They hold the masts up and have the ratlines tied to them) and then there is running rigging, which include all of the sheets etc used to raise, lower and adjust the sails etc.

The former can be depicted black-brown as they suffered the elements and were soaked in pitch, while the running rigging was a more natural colour-linen like as they were tugged about and often stowed away when not used. As to names etc, I am as fresh to it as you and it can change from era to era as sail and rigging evolved.

There are some good videos on Youtube showing the tying of ratlines and other rope types, also one of last year's Model Boats had a good article on folding sails, it is more involved than I imagined!
