Automatic Boiler Control 1949!
« on: May 18, 2015, 09:00:24 pm »

Here’s a film from the BBC archive series first broadcast on television August 1949.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/bankholidays/7105.shtml

Of interest to Mayhemers is the old Ally Pally at the start, where nowadays we have the London Model Engineers Exhibition in January.

The other boating interest is 10min 30 secs into the film, where the interviewer is at the Round Pond, Kensington Gardens, London.

He struggles a bit questioning the young lad about his yacht, but is “rescued” by an elderly chap pushing his “tug”(!) through the water.

The old guy is very proud of his AUTOMATIC pumps (1949!) filling the boiler of his Lowestoft Drifter (tug indeed!).

It is an awful thought, that I can remember the area around St Pauls Cathedral in the early 1950s and they hadn’t done much rebuilding, after the bombings, even then.

And then finally the old Hampstead Heath bank holiday fair – I remember it well!
