fixing windows - advice please
« on: May 18, 2015, 10:13:53 pm »

Hi,

Advice sort / welcome.

I have an old Aero kits boat in re-furb at the moment. I need to fix / glue, new windows in. plastic sheet, to be more to the point.

Now then, question is, how do you do it. I've always put some glue on and fastened. Result window in ok but ugly Glue in sight inside the model. Now then,  I've got a couple of old models and there is no glue evident, How do you do this.

Sorry , this has been bugging me for months, just need the heads up, I hate seeing all that glue?

Cheers

double sided tape from a hobbycraft shop.........it comes with a red backing peel off strip and is waterproof, and will stick like the proverbial to the blanket.........comes in a variety of widths and is micro thin.......I have even stuck such fittings as watertight doors on a 1;12 Interceptor pilot boat with the stuff and it's still stuck 7 years on.

If you don't fancy Neil's suggestion you could go for the stuff I use - Formula 560 Canopy glue. Use sparingly, tape "glass" in place, leave to dry - job done. :-))

Ray.

What I've done on the Motorflote was to make up glazing panels...the clear perspex is built into a styrene frame made from 'L' shaped angle, cut to size and glued into the cabin. The clear window material then simply slides into place, into the frame...job done. No glue on show, and if needed, you can remove the windows for access.

Which one is it, Neil? http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/advancedsearchresults.aspx?query=double-sided-tape-25cm-x-33m
BTW I've always used Deluxe Materials' RC Modellers Craft Glue for this job.

Humbrol do a product call clearfix ( I think) I bought a bottle and not the decalit I wanted! You use a brush to spread it around the frame and then draw it across the opening, it dries and forms your 'glass'

This is aimed at plastic modellers so I have no idea how waterproof or fragile it is! One day I'll dig it out and give it a try on something.
