How do drill glass

As in the title. I need to drill a round hole in a large glass bottle. How do I do this apart from carefully! Special drill bits etc

You will need whats called a spear head drill and If am right a ring of putty and some  white sprit.

What size hole .If I remember dermal used to do a glass engraving wheel .have a look on  Toolstation I have just bought a drill for ceramic /hard porcelain it worked perfect  .It says it will drill glass ,not tried that .David

 :-)) You can get drill bits for glass from Screwfix I know I get some to drill mirror,works O.K. just don't use too much pressure,Ray. :-)) :-)) :-))

Is it a flat bottle, like a gin bottle or a round bottle like a wine bottle?

Also fill it with water and cork the end. This will damp out any vibrations.

Yep that's not a problem. It's having another tube attached to it for an experiment.

It's not going to be easy that's for sure.
I've drilled many glass fish tanks of various thickness glass upto 28mm thick you just have to take it slowly and use plenty of water as you drill to reduce heat build up which will cause cracks or chips.
Helps having a decent drill with adjustable setting of rpm.

I drill two holes in a fish tank using a glass  diamond coated drill. Cut bueatifully. Apply no pressure to the drill just let it do the work itself. I made up a little piece of wood to hold the drill in place till its started cutting its groove. As said create a dam around it and keep a flow of water on it.
