A POLL FOR A UK NAVY DAYS
« on: July 24, 2007, 04:23:11 pm »

There is a small interest in a UK NAVY DAYS, i.e. somewhere that would be central in the UK that would allow people from north and south to meet.
Does anyone have an ideas where it could be arranged. THE GLASGOW WARSHIP TEAM are interested to see if it would be possible.
A lot of clubs have there own navy days and that is a fantastic idea, and this should continue, to help support the local clubs, but could a national warship show be arranged, that would be something to see, as the Glasgow Navy Days show had over 115 naval ships what would  a national event achieve. just putting it out there if something could be arranged  next year.

GRETNA!!!
YOU AFF YUR HEID!!!!
There is nothing their a part from some idiots paying a fortune to get married

It would need to be a place in the central belt of the country
like manchester / merseyside and a line across the country from there.
it would also help having an established club that could provide facilities
something that Gretna has not got as far as I am led to believe.

Wickstead found it !!!
I don't know if it maybe a bit far south for some people,
another thing would be if they are comfortable to host
another possibly large show.
This year at present I found they have or are hosting
The MAYHEM weekend
Tug towing competition
plus their own
I don't want to seem negative but i am just thinking out loud ::)

Wicksteed are also hosting the MPBA Scale Finals in September. Mayhem was my first visit there and I was certainly impressed with the venue. Probably ideal for most events except maybe subs as it's only about two feet (60cm) deep. Very handy if you boat is unforunate enough to sink though.

I Think there is a good concensus of people wanting
a UK NAVY DAY. There has been a few people mentioned wicksteed.
Can I ask then that those interested maybe go back to their clubs and
ask if the club would be interested in hosting the event then once we have a
few clubs interested we can then possibly look at which club would suit most
people for travelling. It is fairer than us posting clubs who may have no interest in
holding the show

Since i have started this poll, there has been a massive interest to have this event happen.
now that we have the interest, what we need to do is find a club or person that lives in the central of the uk, or as close as possible.
For the event to happen, i think we have to put the word out and see he wants to get together to form a  group, that will spearhead this and make sure it runs its course,
that will be the hard part.
i have spoke to a couple of people and there are looking into forming this group , but the more support the better,
if anyone can help with the event, with the event that would be fantastic!

That could be good Boaty, its a matter of logistics for the Northern crew and the Southern crew, East ,West in the middle shouldn't be too much of a problem, the venue is the thing. I am having words with certain people, but, if this event happens, I think it won't be for a bit untill we work everything out between us, possibly next year, if we are lucky, but, in all honesty, probably the year after. We will see. The sooner the better. ;D ;)

hopefullly it can be next year, but it might be a slow process to pull it together, I have sailed at Fleetwood,  nice size, can be a big rough for the smaller boats if the wind get's up, but its an idea,  whats the best way to get the ball rolling, to sort a venue out, any ideas?

Just a wee thought
I know it is not central but what about The Falkirk wheel
I realise it is in Scotland but...
it is alway looking for new events and has nearby
accommodation and event halls (it is similar to ellsmere(another place to think about))

every year thwe PMBC has such an event, however 2007 is cancelled due to lack of facilities caused by redevelopment at the lake and restrictions at other lakes.

contact Farradays Cage for more details regarding navy day 2008

All, I can say is that inroads are being made into venue and also accomodations etc, possible trade, warship kind and general others, this could be a very good thing as almost all other diciplins have a national event other than this one. I think its about time.

 >:(Gingyer: You said I was off ma heid with Gretna, at least I was being considerate to those south of the border......
Fleetwood would be handy especially for those Blackpool boys.  Looking forward to seeing them in October. They might have a few ideas to banter about.  :-X
