Where to buy Tissue and Dope
« on: June 08, 2015, 11:18:18 am »

Fellow model builders,

Where is the best to buy Tissue and Dope.
I decided to build a Springer and have just about completed the hull, and now need to get some dope and tissue.
I must get some pics of the progress to post up here. First boat to be scratch built and really happy with it.

Your best bet would be a local model shop if you have one. Otherwise Google Cellulose Dope and pick a supplier.

Try Inwood models for tissue and dope,

http://www.inwoodmodels.com/index.php?

Best to phone them I think.

As a matter of interest, what are you going dope and tissue ?   The hull of these little beasties tend to get some abuse, tissue and dope might not be tough enough.  OK for the topsides though.  Brown wrapping paper and waterproof PVA is a cheaper, stronger alternative. Best of all of course is fibreglass and resin from Halfords, messy, smelly, overkill perhaps.  Is your hull made of balsa ?

Hi,
Yes I was looking at the hull to dope and paper, But I also have fine fiberglass tissue and resin if need be.
Would you suggest glass and resin on the hull?

Yes glass it if SWMBO will let you. Is it a hardwood hull ie not balsa?

So that is why most my model aeroplanes fly like bricks  :embarrassed:                                                                                                      Good start Kadtoy but rear deck will be needed, rudder and servo.

Also freeing ports/scuppers to take the water on the rear deck away, because there will be some. {-)

Thanks guys. I was so keen to get a pic up that I forgot to put the hatch and water uprights on the model.
But saying that I may change the design as I was drawing a scaled Hiab that I may have to make and put on it.
Purely asthetic.

All you need to do is to go down to halfords and buy some clear laquer......spray on a couple of coats  rub it down with 240 grit DRY DRY DRY not wet couple more ...do the same and then simply use primer filler ....rud down DRY and NOT wet ....spray on primer and then colour of your choice ....seriously there is NO need at all to tissue and dope it or fiberglassing it

Cheers for the information Dave, I hadn't thought of using that as a sealer, very nice idea.
Thanks so much.
