Sea Hornet 2015
« on: June 15, 2015, 12:43:15 pm »

In memory of the Aero kits Sea Hornet I have started to build one from the original plans, which do not have the bulkhead plans, but, I measured from the waterline and was able to get the bulkheads.
I added a prop support into the stern backbone to support the driveline and simplify the built also adding more support around the rudder.
Using 2mm marine plywood for the bulkheads, bottom, deck and 1.5mm for the sides
I added stringers to the bottom to increase the frame strength as I am increasing the motor to brushless with a Lipo battery.

Hi Nivapilot
The sides are 1.5mm aircraft plywood which I have from years ago.
I have finished the one piece windscreens and added 3mm gold pin strip around the edges(looks like timber).
I started on strip planking the deck with 5mm blackwood veneer and 3mm Huon pine veneer.
This gives the boat a very classic look!!!
I plan on fibreglass resin the whole boat and clear coating over the top.

Hi Jerry
A bit of serious work on the boat, but, waiting on some 3mm square timber for the rub and spray rails.

Hi All
Installed driveline, motor, ESC, rudder servo and linkage also the rudder.
Bottom painted white with 4 coats of auto clear coat(the same clear coat for all the boat).
Finally found some figures the right size(only $2 each), a bit of paint to change their looks a bit!!!

Hi
The Sea Hornet has had her sea trails(flight) had to cut back the rudder throw to about 10 degrees and with the balance point 10 inches from the stern.
The handling was very good, nice flat turns with a bit of tail slide.
The spray rails worked well and with the 1900kv(750 watts) motor on 3s 2650mah Lipo the speed was up around 40mph.

It is a smooth water boat so 3/4 throttle or less in chop is required , or it will flip!!
A 1500-1700 kv motor would had been safer.
