B6AC knock off charger
« on: December 07, 2015, 09:03:34 am »

Just bought a B6AC+ charger off ebay.

first problem, adaptor supplied for EU to UK plug is dangerous.
No fuse and earth pin not connected, so possible 32A to case if fault occurs. cut EU plug off and fitted UK plug, 3A fuse.

Next problem, plugged in temperature sensor, not working in display. checking pins. plug has to be inserted the wrong way round, + & - reversed.
Now reads on screen, tested but does not cutout when temperature rises above set value.

only £20, fit for the bin.

also have an imax B6 Mini, with hologram, that works correctly.

Does it have an earth wire? Most of these things are double insulated & don't need an earth. But it should have a UK plug though.

How can these things be sold here ? I thought that all electrical appliances had to pass some sort of  EU type  safety approval scheme and be marked as such and that the seller had to ensure that?

it has a ce marking on the case.

trouble is that people who don't know or don't care, sell these with the cheapest agaptor avaliable.

When someone gets hurt they melt away into the background, wash their hands etc. All to common.

It should be illegal to sell in the UK market without a correct UK moulded plug and lead. but it doesn't appear to be so.

I have ordered a genuine unit, at twice the price, be interesting to compare the two.

Yes it should be illegal! |I dare say that if you as an electrician did a knowingly unsafe piece of work and certified it as okay, you would be prosecuted quite smartly,

This should open a can of worms.

Personally, that CE mark is a load of crap and means nothing as it is a self certified declaration certificate.

I've checked this in the past based on items from Foreign fields. Anyone can self certify the item but there is no actual database for anyone to check it against in the EU.

So how did this piece of equipment get past EU checks?? Cos there ain't any.

Trading standards????

Look here under the misuse section:
