Sea well, built by Jimmy Woods, in my opinion one of the best modellers there is, considering everything is scratch built. nemesis.

The specialist FB sites for model makers are excellent and the talent and skill is there in abundance .  Having  know Jimmy Woods for many years  he is one of the finest Model Makers  there is and a top notch gentlemen .

I was happy to let 'that comment' lie ( as I found quite ironic! )  but topic now cleaned up as replies were way off topic.   :police:

Hi there

Tell you a couple of good stories about the life size James Clark Ross - I worked on that boat when she was in Grimsby for a week.   We were overhauling the hydraulic winch & towing motors down below decks.  I don't know if many of you have been on board - but - with her being an Arctic Survey Vessel working in extreme cold weather conditions everything below deck and above deck is insulated with what is like a fibreglass loft insulation and also over the top of that there is a steel perforated plate with millions of holes / mesh ... this has two purposes - to keep out the cold, keep in the warmth and to restrict noises.

A winch and hydraulic winches that we had to move and overhaul needed lifting tackle to be secured on overhead and side bulk heads - but - before we could do this we had to remove all lagging and soundproofing so we could get to the steel behind it to weld lifting lugs on for our lifting gear - nightmares - made the job ten times longer and everything had to be put back as was :-)

Before leaving they loaded up her food supplies; and along with them all was a huge pallet of Mars Bars - must have been about 4 ft high - try as we may we couldn't get one Mars Bar :-)

Completed the Search & Rescue vessel diorama, and must admit, for once, I am very pleased with how it came out. Really enjoy depicting waves and water! Robins models's - https://www.facebook.com/Robinsmodels/posts/1263962350338606

I guess you can see which fb page this came from, however the level of 'weathered' detail on this tug is exceptional, it looks like real rusted metal!

David....I too am  not a Facebook fan or poster....so have no real technical experience in opening Facebook images without accepting & joining to one individuals Blog

I have done this & joined/accepted one of my daughters pages......so from there I can see her posted images...and then also open postings associated with her....this the multiplies a 10 to the *power...............& you can see posts from a zillion people

I rarely comment in print, but have access to be a lurker  %)

Our MBM now has a Facebook page....Martin posts messages & links associated with marine matters......I can open & read these, but feel no real need to respond etc

Yes, it's as easy to 'lurk' on Facebook as creating a new email or Mayhem account!
You don't need to post anything on Facebook or reveal any real details about yourself just so you have an account.
Once you've joined, you can see any photos posted, same like here on Mayhem.

I do post some Facebook photos here on Mayhem:

I don't like FB either but did as Derek has said, Unfortunately FB is the new way a the moment and unlike a couple of well known retailers Mayhem needs to adapt to keep ahead..

Jolly sailing weather with my newly rusted fishing boat. Shared the lake with a floating weed whacking tank, plus the ugliest seagull I have ever seen. Image may contain: ocean, sky, outdoor, water and nature.
