Congratulations indeed Martin,I am a member of one of the "sticks and string" facebook groups that Roland is and as such very familiar with his work.To the best of my knowledge he has won at least one gold medal at Naviga every year for several years!

Hi Derek

Both Roland and myself are members of the galleon ship model group on facebook.Roland did post his work daily on there but is fairly inactive on there now as am I.Roland builds models for a living and some of his work that he shared were commissions.

I am a member of the Modelshipworld forum which is now run by The Nautical Research Guild which I used to subscribe to.That is full of builds similar to Roland's but you have to be a member now to view the build logs.

Regards

From the Maersk OSV Modelling group, the start of a 1/50 model of Bokalift 1.At over 4.3m long,it makes my future plan of building Oleg Strashnov at 1/100 pretty small in comparison %)

One for you Derek :-))

Cumberland by Alexey Banarov at 1/36 scale.Alexey is based in the Ukraine and without Facebook I would not have been able to converse with him about some of his techniques.Everything is scratchbuilt, only thing Alexey doesn't do is cast the cannons but he does produce the wax patterns for the foundry.

I saw those on F/B, it's photos like those that make me want to sell up and take up knitting or golf...the man has exceptional modelling skills, his work is awesome.
His work is truly fantastic. Re Knitting &golf at least knitting is useful.

I feel so inadequate by comparison! I’ve got a few 1/700 scale models still in their boxes but I’m waiting until I’m a better modeller before I attempt to do them justice. I’ve been reading in the last couple of issues of Model Boats about building small scale models- in particular the sailing ship scratch build- and it’s given me inspiration because at least everything is made for you but you’ve got to a good job sticking them together!
