PDF to DXF?
« on: July 20, 2015, 07:25:33 pm »

Does anyone out there have the ability to convert PDF plans straight to DXF drawings for cad use? I'm far too tight to pay for the software to do it...

Does dwf as well, or so it says.  Also says "free".  Watch out for bundleware.

Personally I steer clear of any website that offers me a cheap handbag and ray bans whilst I download software...

If you download Draftsight you might be able to import and trace over if that's any good. I've used it to trace over pictures, so worst case you can cut and paste any picture from the PDF and past into Draftsight.....

Having just checked my copy of Draftsight, you can insert PDFs, so this might work for you: http://www.3ds.com/products-services/draftsight-cad-software/free-download/

I normally avoid them, but with a little careful reading and ticking/unticking boxes you just get what you wanted and they get the chance to unload the dodgy bag of rays beans elsewhere.

SOFTONIC-----

STAY AWAY FROM THAT SITE!!!!

It does give free software to download, but it also installs malicious software at the same time. I have used it three times, two of them inadvertantly from links. Each time I have had to spend half a day removing search engines, toolbars etc etc that it automatically downloaded. On one occasion I even had to remove items from the registry to get rid of stuff it downloaded.

There are plenty of other places to download software free of charge without going to them.

I did say care was needed, but digging a bit more, there is this -
 https://nirklars.wordpress.com/2015/04/22/pdf-to-dwg-using-free-open-source-inkscape/
- using some of the facilities in inkscape.  There are also various online facilities for doing the conversion, also at least one that offers a trial period before wanting "just" $180.

If I've managed to pick up an unwanted extra due to carelessness, a rinse of the system using adwcleaner (from its home site) has always worked, right down to registry level.  That and a shot of malwarebytes.

I get round the issue by not having a Windows PC, but each to their own

Thanks to all, I'm now sorted :-))
