slight oscillation on rudder servo.....
« on: July 21, 2015, 08:48:57 pm »

.... just finished setting up the electrics all action stuff including a noisy thing and an amp and when i start up, the rudder servo oscillates slightly not by much but enough to notice, is this a price to pay or is there a solution?

Have you tried adjusting the  'throw'  of the T/X arm to see if it stops.

Is the TX switched on?  The RX receives whatever it can, in the absence of a real signal it does the best it can with that, which usually causes spurious operation, the steering servo is the most sensitive (usually) and can twitch about a bit.
If it is a setup with a lot of goodies, very careful attention must be paid to the ground line (negative) wiring, as odd unintended re-routings can give odd voltage fluctuations in the ground line.  Also check that there is enough power to keep the RX voltage stable, unstable supply voltages cause the servo to think it should re-position itself when something else draws power.

And always, TX on first, RX on second.  RX off first, TX off second.

Have you fitted suppressor capacitors to the motor(s)? 2G4 radios won't suffer from RFI but I think yours is a 40MHz F14, and any motor can generate spikes of EMF which can break through to the receiver. As Malcolm says, the rudder servo is nearly always Channel 1 so the first one in line to show any wobbles (and frequently the only servo in the model).

Thanks for that, chaps, it seems to have sorted itself out.
