A trip to the dentist could work out profitable........
« on: July 25, 2015, 06:38:36 am »

it did for me :o

Last week I went for my 6 months checkup at the dentist, it's almost holiday time and know that my dentist owns a full scale yacht. I asked him about it and he explained he was waiting to sail the new yacht he had ordered. (I pay him too much) I explained that I too was waiting to sail a new boat that I am building and I was in the process of balancing it with lead weights. He asked if I needed any more lead as he had a strip left over from when the room was protected against the x Rays. I said yes and he gave me a roll of 50mm wide 1mm thick and goodness knows how long but it weighs over 5kilos. It can be cut with scissors and bends very very easily :-))

So next time you are at the dentist just ask........ You never know.  U2

Ask him if he's got any old dentistry type tools. I got a load off my dentist. Really useful for modelling.
Jerry.

I could do with one of those tool they shove in your mouth to do the drilling and grinding- the 90 degree angle ones, I have just the job for it at the moment- kind of stuck without it at the moment!

Umi has experimented with one of those in converting it to make a schottle drive.  I believe it's not easy.

Shipmate, I imagine it's almost exactly the same except for the fact that roofers will probably have constant need for it whereas if a dentist still has some hanging about its just leftover as it was at my dentist, hence he gave it to me for free. :-))    U2

@Brian56
Just a thought.  I treasure them these days - they're getting rarer. {:-{

I don't know what you need to attack but my old dad's method when he couldn't get a drill in or didn't have an appropriate size for making holes in wood was a red hot piece of wire.  Obviously, anything but precise but I've done it once or twice just to make a small access hole through wood. - It takes several goes and makes a lot of smoke but it might get you out of trouble.  It might even work on fibreglass.

Wouldn't work pal, its got plasticard on three sides and within 5mm of where I need the hole, so the plastic would melt from the heat.Imagine the inside corner of a box!
