Todays Rescue...
« on: August 02, 2015, 09:56:43 pm »

I've picked up a bit of a wreck of a hull today, but hey it's an early 20th Century motor launch (I think), and I quite like them.
My club (DSMBC) had a bring and buy sale, and I picked this up for the acceptable price of Free.
If anyone has any idea what precisely it may be I'd be very grateful.

I know it's a wreck, and It's saturated with IC soot, but it'll polish up, (with a can of P38 and a few coats of paint)
I've striped it today, nitromors and a bit of elbow, and the hull is near enough sound.

I plan to turn it in to a fast'ish electric, new propshaft and rudder.
The whole superstructure will need rebuilding.
current prop is an M3 25mm 3 Blade, but it's bent. So I'll change the shaft to M4 and possibly go to two blades.
Motor will likely be a 25mm 1400KV outrunner (I have) running on 3S.

Definitely not Aerokit's (Huntsman anyway) more like a 'slipper' launch with that flared stern , absence of spray rail's too . . .
Get every bit of the 'soot' out of there , it'll have caster oil residue & plays havoc with paint's (looks as though he's been running it without a silencer TUT TUT  <*< )  that mess in there . . . would make a nice RIVA AQUARAMA type speedster .

Still think that it is a pruned Swordsman.  Apparent flare on stern is due to the perspective of the angle the photo was taken at. This is what I think it started out as.

If it is an Aerokits Swordsman the vee angle on the hull is 30 degrees, beam 11and1/2 inches , length 33and1/4 minus about 2 inches if the round stern was removed also on the cabin piece shows two windows and the original has one.
I have a copy of the original plan and the photo above is my mates finished boat.
It maybe a Chris Craft???

Thanks for your answers, The vee of the hull at the transom is pretty much nothing, I've not actually measured the angle, but it's flatter than everything else I've compared it to.
The hull is coming up well, I'll post some progress soon.
Thanks
