Motor mounts
« on: July 01, 2015, 09:18:48 pm »

I need to find marine motor mounts to fit this motor:

 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18119__Turnigy_Aerodrive_SK3_3536_1400kv_Brushless_Outrunner_Motor.html

A fitting was included but its meant for planes.

You may well find that the motor will screw very neatly to one of these. Certainly a 28mm motor fits on the 380 mount. https://www.howesmodels.co.uk/product/Standard%20Motor%20Mount%20for%20540-600%20Motors

Like Stavros said.  I use aluminum angle from the hardware store.  One piece sold at 3 feet long makes a bunch of motor mounts.

Well...each to his or her own......but @ £2.10 ...I think it is good value.... as compared to a minimum length  >>:-( of 50x50 x 3 aluminium angle iron.......

Pity the people in the graphics department :embarrassed: were not able to comprehend that if a dimension is 55 mm, then it should be depicted as such................Derek

I think you nailed it Derek, it's from the graphics department, not the drafting department...

55mm what?  Length or bolt spacing?

Please forgive my slightly naive original reply but the question seemed to be more "Where do I get a motor mount?" than "How do I make a mount and from what material?".
For those who would rather make than buy I've always found these guys to offer excellent prices and service for UK customers http://www.metals4u.co.uk/aluminium/angle/2-x-2-x-18/detail.asp?prd_id=199
Of course there are bound to be 'better' and 'cheaper' suppliers and equally there are bound to be Mayhem members who can't wait to shout down my suggestion and trumpet their own instead.

If you telephone Howes on any business day but Wednesday and ask to speak to John Cox then he will clarify any confusion over the dimensions. He may even already know whether or not the mount does fit the proposed motor. I don't think you're going to get confirmation of either on here.

The above illustrated motor mounts fitted the motors Ok, I only had to counter sink the bolt holes to suit the Bolts.

Regards and thanks to all,Glyn.
