Monoperm Super
« on: August 05, 2015, 03:01:23 pm »

Hi folks, I have just aquired a little Bolougne Etaples fishing boat that has been unused for many years, so old in fact there was no ESC, just a battery box and a switch connected to a Monoperm Super, ungeared but with a little red lever to, I assume reverse the motor. I have rewired the boat and fitted a 6v SLA, steering servo and a Ripmax esc that I had lying around. Problem is, motor runs fine forward, but very slowly if at all in reverse. Is this because the Monoperm is not designed to be used with an esc?

THey are designed to run either way by esc and yes the lever is for reversing, should give about 5000 rpm.

Many thanks. Must be the old ESC then, it is similar to the old Gold coloured HI Tec ones but made, or at leastdistributed by Ripmax......

The old Ripmax speed control has a low speed reverse function. Not a problem on a 500 can speedy motor, but you will suffer from very poor reverse on a low speed motor like a Monoperm. Worst case swap it out for an Mtronics or Action unit with full forward and full reverse functions. Useful when the numpties cut across your path on the pond :}

Thanks matey, I may fit a 385 and flog the momoperm, or, get an Action esc, which one is best for Monoperm? Not used to messing with electrickery, Hot Fog is my normal MO....

Hi PO nick, if you change over the motor connections that should resolve the monoperm issue.  Nice motors originally would have cost more than the esc.
