Prop shaft sealing
« on: August 10, 2015, 07:30:44 am »

My first boat was a kit called Ulisus which turned out ok apart from taking on water threw the propshaft. I am now building a North Sea dragger and hope the same does not happen to it. Would be interested in any thoughts that readers have on the subject.

Hi Mckenzie, firstly did you grease the shaft during assembly? Is there an oiler tube fitted to the
Prop outer tube? The grease or oil act as a seal in the tube to stop the ingress of water.
Especially when in reverse where water can be forced up the tube by the propeller.
