Greetings from Denmark
« on: August 10, 2015, 05:50:36 pm »

Hello all,

my name is Karina, I'm 43 and I've been interested in ships/modelships-/boats since I was a child.  I've built a few small model boats as teen and early twenties, and they were actually able to float - but I think its not around 20 years since I built the last one.  I want to get back into this creative hobby, and these days with internet available, forums and such, I thought it could be nice to get to know other people with the same interests.

Watching the Australian TV series, "Sea Patrol," on Danish TV the past couple of months, sparked my interest in ships again, and trying to find either modelkits or building plans for the Armidale Class patrolboats made me come across this forum, and I hope to learn a lot about building models by studying everything you all may have built in the past or are building on now.

Regards,
- Karina  ;)

Welcome Karina.....as Ned mentions....we have a number of Armidale Class vessel builds here on MBM...luck will not be necessary...just perseverance :-)) ...

I have never been on-board an Armidale Class vessel, however did spend a few hours on-board the earlier Class of vessel in Sydney harbour for work many years ago..........

We also found the TV series enthralling.......Derek

Tigertiger and Derek, thank you.

At the moment two of the Royal Danish Navy ships are in harbor here on the small island I live on, and I've never been close to one,  so Sunday evening my husband and kids and I went to see it and I was quite overwhelmed for some reason. maybe because i'm a lady, I don't know. I probably have a different emotional take on the honorable issue of it all, for a ship protecting my country.

Derek, have you seen the 3D video on youtube showing a virtual tour of the Armidale class, both inside and out?    its so well made.

How did it feel for you to get a "ride" on the older vessel around Sydney Harbour?  I would have been so thrilled and honored.

I had the privilege of going on board HMAS Armidale while she was in Cairns, in September 2013. I had built a model of that vessel several years previously, mainly from line drawings and photos, plus some invaluable help from one of the forum members, and used the visit to take photos of the modifications made since I built mine. I was then able to modify my model to better represent the real ship, fortunately those mods were quite easy to make. Unfortunately, HMAS Bundaberg was badly damaged in a fire in a dockyard in Brisbane not long after, so badly in fact that she was scrapped. I now only have the photos, and my model, to remind me of that visit, although there are 13 other Armidale Class boats still active (as far as I know) in the Royal Australian Navy.

thank you Wicker.

Peter, I saw the photos of the fire on Bundaburg, what a shame it turned out that bad she had to be scrapped.
