Cannon smoke effect?
« on: August 25, 2015, 08:59:43 pm »

I am looking for tips on (fairly) realistic smoke from small cannon on deck of my piratical vessel. I have the 'bang' but can anyone help with smoke from the muzzles? Thanks IA.
Bob.

There have been some recent discussions on related subjects including one on the HMS Iron Duke in the Warships R&D section and another that I cannot recall the details of but I am sure a search will get you onto a vein of ideas and leads somewhere useful.

How is the bang made?
another waY I've seen done is talc down the cannon muzzle. The back of the cannon is connected to a mini air cylinder which is actuated electronically to 'fire' the talc out.
Look up big gun warships. It's the same way they fire bb's

This is Geoff's project with added gunfire experiments. http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,43803.0.html

Klunk: 'Bang' or more like a 'crack' is by a simple party-popper (minus contents!) which is fairly loud if not too far away. I tried the talc idea from another forum, but not enough 'push' from the poppers to be effective, however, I will investigate the air-propulsion idea.

Ian: Geoff's salvo ideas are way too ambitious for my simple needs, but I applaud his ingenuity and wonderful work.

Thanks all.
