Outerlimits SV43 - Something a little different...

Hello there,

I have been working on this project for around 9 months. It is a semi-scale model of an Outerlimits SV43 made from Carbon Fibre and Kevlar. It is powered by an RCMK K600S (57cc with around 14hp) running a clutch and gearbox which then runs twin counter-rotating drives. Anyway, here are the pictures and feel free to ask any questions!

Amazing power [14HP] to size  :-))....

Is this the drive you are using?....and is the clutch purely centrifugal?......

I understand the props, prop shafts and 80% of the internals of the gearbox are counter rotating......but how is the engine torque effect prior to the gearbox handled?.......

Cannot quite see how the exhaust is ported to the STDB discharge, & is the centre discharge cooling water?..........

I see the gearbox appears to be also water cooled....do you run on fresh water only?

So many questions  %)......Derek

That's not quite the gearbox I am using, I have got the 'Transmission 1' The one you pictured has a 16% overdrive, mine has no overdrive. Yes, its only the clutch that spins one way, the rest is counter-rotating. The gearbox copes with the torque okay, the clutch is mounted straight onto the back of the engine. Yes, the clutch is centrifugal. It works similar to drum brakes, the shoes 'open out' with speed, which grips the inside if the drum. I have attached an in-build picture to show the exhausts. One cylinder exits on the two port exhausts and the other cylinder exits on the two STDB exhausts. All 4 exhausts have cooling water and exhaust gases coming out of them! The gearbox isn't water cooled, that is an oil level sight gauge thing! Unfortuantly I have to run it in salt water as there are no fresh lakes near me!

What you call box of speed is a box of transfer: an entrance(entry) / two exits(releases)?

You should put clamp collars on your radiator hoses ..............

Thanks Jerry, having troubles starting her at the moment but hopefully fairly soon. gazou, yes I think that has been 'lost in translation' it is as you describe! All cooling lines are cable tied!

Is it a pull start? If it is I'd recommend fitting a Zenoah EZ Starter if one's not on there already. A new single cylinder RCMK of mine was pretty savage to turn over until I fitted one of those, I shudder to think what a twin is like. They take a bit of modding to fit properly, but well worth it.
