I didn't pick up on this earlier but Mandate, being a Fairfield ship, there may be plans in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.

Or any of the Fairfield built M class.

They are very helpful in the Mitchell and their copies of drawings are quite reasonable in cost.

Hi Andy

I have obtained drawings for the R class destroyer HMS Rigorous from National Maritime Museum. Also the plating plan for M class ships. They don't have R class hull plans but M and R are very similar. If there are any details you think these drawings might help with in your M class ship, please get in touch.

If anyone is interested I have just sent down to Fleetscale a 1/96 hull plug for an S-class [ 1918 ] which I have to build . This will go into Fleetscales range of hulls in a month.

Ooh, sounds interesting.

Once I know I can build and ballast slender models satisfactory I will have a closer look at this.

What diameter props would people reccomend we use? I currently have 30mm props driven by what I assume are double ended (shaft comes out both ends) 300/385 motors? The props look a touch big and wonder if 25mm might be better. I appreciate that the plans have props shown, but what with size variations and the power plant a little guidance would be appreciated.

Excuse my thread hijack but as we are both doing M class models, the advice might help us both.

The plans I was kindly sent show the three props on the M-class to be ~72" in diameter. Say 1.9mm at 1/96th scale, or the "08xx" series from propshop.

Mike, thanks for your posting regarding the plating diagram. I would love to see this, but as you've paid NMM for your copy, I would have to say that there are copyright issues with you redistributing them.  :((

Hi Andy

Yes I agree re: copyright issues which do need to be respected, especially in view of the great help given to me by the NMM staff.  That's really why I tried to phrase my post by offering to help out over specific details as I assume it is only disseminating actual copies of parts or all  of the drawings that would be wrong rather than information gathered from the drawings.

I tried getting a rough idea of how much the fee for dissemination of plans/materials etc would be while ordering the drawings for Achilles, but I got no reply and assume that it is on a case by case and end use basis.

My thoughts were to offer copies at a cost basis and offer the NMM the fee per copy but I have not gone any further with the idea.

.... "~72" in diameter. Say 1.9mm at 1/96th scale"

Hi Andy.....the decimal point battery on your ABACUS must need replacing.......72 divided by 96 = 0.75" or ~~ 19.05 mm diameter  :-)) .. Derek

Those menticetres are a chore to get right. I had to take both my socks off last week when working something out. I ran out of fingers :o

menticetres??....in OZ we have adopted an alternate counting system, however the maximum number of indices is 10.....yes  O0...when you get to 10, we halt the count and with pen & paper scribe the word ''one"

This way we can keep our socks on and pray that the final count does not exceed 99....as that then requires using an eraser to erase the first word "one" and substitute the word "two"....

We also use those old fashioned 'slide rules' to ensure our line of 'ones' are straight :o

Wiles away the hours just counting...... {-) ....... Derek
