does anyone know which model boat kit this is?
« on: August 28, 2015, 04:53:09 pm »

Hi all, I have this model to identify.  It is 26 1/2. inches loa and 6 1/4 inches beam.
Looks like a river launch but do not know.  The hull is a rather flimsy plastic, large openings and there are ply 'decks' and a stern area.

Thanks,
Roy

Thank you Martin but I have not had any trouble before and eventually it went through OK.

Hi all, just to push patients along a bit.  The ply large deck part is pre-cut so intended to cover the deck otherwise I would have put it as an open type Edwardian steam launch.  The brown item is a plastic formed 'lid' probably for fitting at the stern.

I have tried the Internet in general but failed to find any reference to it.  Close inspection shows a complete RC system which would need to be covered up by superstructure.

Any ideas on the origins of the kit would be appreciated,
Roy

I thought it might be a Midwest Products boat kit but can't find anything similar in their range.
Any idea how old or where it came from?

Hi Martin, I suspect that it is at least 10 years old, the RC has a mechanical speed controller and the model was in an attic workshop which the modeller would not have accessed in the last 6 or 7 years as he is now 89.
He has rather lost it now but I will ask him next time I see him but would be surprised if he remembered.  A small group of us are helping to clear the house.
Thanks for your interest though, I also thought it must be an obscure item.

I've seen one of these before somewhere...I have an idea that it may (MAY) be an old Sarik Vacform hull, dating back around twenty years or so, probably longer. I believe they were made to take an artificial steam engine made up from plastic tube, etc...the name Jenny or Jeannie or similar is lurking at the back of my mind.

Hi martin and U33 some progress, it may trigger someone.  I would just like to see some plans.

It will be up for sale probably at our club exhibition 26 / 27 September.
But always open to an offer, it includes the Acoms Techni plus Tx.
thanks for your interest.

Hello Martin.  Well done!  I think it needs re-fitting out with the open steam boat in mind.  There are no other mouldings so either they are lost or discarded.
Thanks again can rest easy now.  Thanks also to u33 for responding, Janet it is!
best regards Roy.

Hi Roy, what you have here is a "S L Janet" kit by SHG marine. Page 8 from their downloadable catalogue. I have made 3 of these during the last 20 years or so, one of them being paddle powered. I hope this helps.
