Need to change my battery
« on: September 27, 2015, 09:05:35 pm »

I need to change the battery on my puffer
At the moment it has a rechargeable VRLH 12v  3.0 AH/20hr with a MFA Torpedo 500 4.5 -15v Dc motor with a 6.1 gear box.
15 Amp Mtroniks speed control
45 mm prop

The question is what would be the best replacement as the old one is not holding its charge any more.

Probably another of the same dimensions and weight.  No battery lasts forever, and we tend to not treat ours very well.

You need to ensure that the  Amp Hours are as large as you can afford, if you want to extend your run time.

I'm confused over the exact value of the one you have.

Cheers

12 volts, 3A/H, in this case at a low rate over 20 hours.  If it was a lithium battery it would be labelled as 0.05C.  Habitually drawing at a higher rate (which we all do) will shorten its life (which happens to all of us).

Yes, but the lower voltage will give reduced performance.  Put enough NiMH cells in series and you get 12 volts (i.e. 2 of 5 cell packs, both of the same A/H rating).
