hello all heres what ive done so far in regards my smit rotterdam ,this is what i started with

Just goes to show what can be done with a little dedication and a LOT of graft.

Hoping to pick up some tips along the way - might be useful for my Smit Nederland rebuild.

so now the part i dont like. the hull was very badly chiped missing paint (although she had about 6 difrent coats on her )i decided to realy strip her back

please dont pick any of my tips up ray im a hacker ,i chipped the old paint off wasnt a pritty sight .lol im learning as i go along

I fully sympathise with you with regards to getting it back to the bare hull - it was bad enough rubbing down ABS, yours is plank on frame

For your colour scheme, I just copied this off Billings Website:-

Humbrol Paint Colours recommended for this model:
3 Brunswick Green
9 Tan
19 Bright Red
21 Black
22 White
23 Duck Egg Blue
24 Trainer Yellow
40 Pale Grey
48 Mediterranean Blue
131 Satin Green

...might come in handy for you later on.

and some fittings ive had to make they need a prime and paint ,so thats it so far im off to have a go at the brass knorts nozzle(propeller bits)

Ha! I wondered what that copper thing was. It looked like saucepan with a handle missing and wondered if you were going to cut it up for copper forms.

I admire how you have rescued the superstructure, it almost looks brand new now.

Did you originally make the nozzles? As they look well formed (Now I realise that it isn't an old saucepan

) It isn't an easy job forming metal at the best of times without the added fun of a cylidrical form.

the nozzles looked like copper pipe tapered one end with a nut and bolt (arm) ,also my attempt at spraying primer onto the hull

note to self .... feeling smooth dosent mean it is smooth paints revealed lots of little crevies,hope layers of paint will fill these?????

If they are not too deep then it will, I have read that the first coupe of coats of primer are there solely to sand away to fill fine cracks and blemishes, with following coats sealing them in and allowing you to build up a smooth surface.

Get yer wet and dry out Mr Ferry:O)

hello chaps just a update ,my mate brian(tug62) gave me advice about primer filler

well i think this hulls going to have more coats than a onion..its very suprising what one thinks is smooth and filled is diffrent from acually being filled in but ill keep going sanding refilling sanding etc .... oh joy of joys all my birthdays came at one time because of a nice gentleman in germany.and google translate( dodgy at times ) i found these so now i can ..slowly finnish her back to as she was 1st built

Boy, oh boy. You have hit the jackpot - looks like you've obtained enough parts to complete your rebuild.

Filling and sanding, filling and sanding - yes, it's a pain in the trossachs, but you'll be glad you kept at it when the paint goes on.
