North Sea Winches Shield - Oct 4th
« on: September 28, 2015, 06:05:10 pm »

Hello folks,
Balne Moor MBC will hold it's last event of the season on Sunday 4th October.

This will be a competition for the North Sea Winches Trophy.  Two men (or women) teams will compete for the sponsor's trophy.  See the earlier post relating to the MPBA Shield for the rules.

Scale sailing will also be available all day.

Entry fee £1.00 per tug or £1.50 per boat for scale sailing.

If you do not have a tug, you can borrow one of ours.

Activities will start at about 10.30 a.m.

Refreshments in the form of hot sandwiches available up to about 13.00.  Tea and coffee available all day as well as cakes.

For your sat nav DN14 0EL.  Just a few miles from junction 34 of the M62.

Come along to have a go, or you'll have to wait until March!

If you haven't had a go at towing before, come along to Balne Moor on Sunday.

Don't worry if you haven't got a tug, someone will lend you theirs.

Who knows?  If you like it you'll have all the winter to build your own in time for the next event in spring.

If the word "competition" puts you off, don't worry as I am absolutely useless but it is great fun trying to get the towed vessel through the harbours and buoys - besides, we uphold the age old British tradition of believing it is the taking part that is important, not the winning (unless I win of course, dream on girl!).

See you all on Sunday,

Tess

Wow!
What can I say? another absolutely brilliant day this is what tugs and towing are all about. My pal Jim and I made our third visit to Balne moor for the towing we were blessed with another lovely day with sunshine and, for October, warmth (ok it went cooler when the sun was behind the clouds). I was running my newly finished Norton Cross the "Anita.C" named after my lovely mum so it was completely new territory for both me and the boat. She ran extremely well both solo and towing I am gobsmacked at the results as Jim and I left at 4pm ish so did not know the results. I would like to give my sincere thanks to both John and Steve for all your help and advice during the two man tows when you get a warm welcome and the company of really nice people it makes the 200 mile round trip more than worthwhile. Jim and I will hopefully be at every competition in 2016.
I would also like to give my thanks to Mike Ellis, Eric, Tess and Mike and all the girls in the kitchen great job with the butties and coffee, please keep it going next year.
Wishing you all the very best for Christmas and a happy, healthy and wealthy New Year.
Thanks again guys n girls maybe see you at Blackpool and definitely 2016.
                     Kindest regards,
                           Faz. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
P.S. Well done Shady, I will try and have a Tug with two props next year.

Thank you to all the people that helped make our last event of the season run brilliantly . Nice to see the west coast lads plundered our trophy stocks again  :-) . Many thanks to North Sea Winches for kindly sponsoring the event once again , we really appreciate the help. Faz you make me chuckle .....
