NEWBIE's first build
« on: September 29, 2015, 11:39:56 am »

Although I have made static models before (cars & trucks ) this is my first time with a boat, and I have never done anything with R/C and don't know anything about it.
So after reading a lot on here and other places I decided to have ago. I read about the Italeri Vosper, so got the kit sent out, very few model shops in Cyprus. Now as well as R/C I wanted a nice looking model and with a few mods original as possible. So to start with the rudder, most I saw had the rudder in the bottom of the hull, but I want original. So I went to S.H.G and they supplied the motors,kit type rudders etc. Having looked at the rudders I came up with the idear of modifying to what I wanted. I used the tube, and cut an arm to shape,and it was a very tight push fit over the wire and epoxy it on.  Will Update this.

You're gonna have issues with your rudder servo, either the arm binding against the hull side or
asymmetric rudder movement!

You may also have leaks via the arm through the transom!  {:-{

I have tested the hull out slow and fast and no water goes in. the prop wash is well away from the stern I used my test pool, as for the servo it is touching the hull side when over to port so I only use the stick to the point of it touching. I will have to do a mod on it, any idears welcome. As I said this is new to me. Thank you.

Last lot of pics for you. As you can see I done a mod on the torpedo tubes so I could get to the screws, the front of the tubes is a tight fit so it wont come off. Hope its OK.

Thank you Graham and Dan for your comments. She is 1/35 SCALE. I am waiting for a new battery and other parts then I will get some pics of her in the test pool. We don't get to Limassol as we are the other side of Paphos, St George's near Coral bay. We don't have ponds here only reservoirs and they are to windy and rough, so I shall be using the harbour .

Just a suggestion regarding the rudder throw. If you reverse the servo so the lever is at the aft end, you could shorten the arm and get the line of the throw in a better place?
Lovely model anyway :-))

Just an idea :-)

Thank you Tony.  The placement of the servo was governed by the leads, I am waiting for extentions to arrive then I can try all idears out, so will give yours a try. Chris

 TonyH I did  turn the servo round and it works, the reason I did it that way was the length of the wires, I have found out that you can get extentions so have ordered some. Thank you.
