Spektrum DX6i - buyer beware!
« on: October 13, 2015, 06:14:15 pm »

So, today my brand new DX6i arrived (from a reputable UK supplier).  I got the self-centring kit from Horizon Hobby last week, the intention being to convert this new TX for boat use.  The plan was that my existing DX6i would be kept for use with aircraft until such time as I end up boat-only, at which point I'd convert that too so we have his 'n' hers boat transmitters.  But alas ...

On opening up the new TX what should I find but they've gone and changed the pots/gimbals assemblies, such that they bear no relation to the pictures in the online "how to convert your DX6i to self-centring" guides.  And furthermore, it seems obvious that the bits in the conversion kit don't fit this DX6i!

This is a bit of a PITA because it means I've had to swop the push-button throttle cut switch on the new one with the toggle switch I fitted to the old one (my preference for aircraft use), and now I have to copy all my aircraft settings over so I can use the new one for aircraft.  Then I can fit the conversion kit to my old TX, which does agree with the online pictures, and use that one for boats.

Hopefully by the time I pack up flying and we need two boat transmitters, a self-centring kit will be available for this later-style DX6i  {:-{

Off now to email Horizon Hobby to see what they have to say on the matter, but meanwhile I hope this helps somebody else avoid having the same surprise ...

Well, I've just had a reply from a helpful chap at Horizon Hobby who's referred me to the manual.  Which I should have read in case it's different.  Which it is.  Because this newer DX6i is actually user-changeable from Mode 1 to Mode 2!

No bits required.  I just have to RTFM ...  :embarrassed:

If you want to part with the kit let me know as I have an older DX6i that it would be handy to change

Will do.  Should have time to look into this further at the weekend and will PM you if it's going spare.
