Dogs Names
« on: October 14, 2015, 09:41:05 pm »

I'm about to take my dog "Alfie" for his evening constitutional and it got me thinking, we've come a long way since the days of Rover or Fido so - anybody else given their pooch a human name (clean answers only please) :-)

Regards,

Ray.

It seems to me that most dogs nowadays have human names, or they do in our area. Our dogs are Cassie and Nat, (previous ones were Stella and Clare) my son's is Beau, (his previous one was Chloe) my daughter's is Chester and our neighbour's is Jock. I think that Rover and Fido have been consigned to history.

In the years we have had
Rough Colley.. Kirsty
Rough Colley.. Arabell ( had a ridiculously long pedigree name so we shortened it)
Shelty.. Lochie
Dachsund.. Esmerelda
Dachsund..Julie
 :-)

Then again we have had a horse called Messala  (yes from Ben-Hur) not the local dish !!
cats, Pussy Purr, Pussy Pie, Diddles,  a Cockatoo called Cocky and of the 5 tortoises the 2 names I can remember Pedeta and pedra pretty sure the other 3 also began with P as did my Mother and my 2 Aunts !!

All Lakeland Terriers
Trim
Ben
Brin
Bruin

Don't know where Trim got his name but Ben was popular in the 1980s and Brin was a mix of Trim and Ben mixed together. Bruin got his name from the German bear because when we had him as a puppy he looked like a little bear!

Our German Shephard is Sasha, and before her, we had a Jason.

When my mum was a kid, in the 1930's/40's, their dogs were always called Rex.

Can I add our cats name?
She was the runt of the litter and died but our daughter managed to do the kiss of life when she was born and brought her back to life so she is known as ELLie, eight lives left!

We adopted our pup last September to save her from being thrown in a rubbish bin(yes it happens a lot in Spain) she was 5 weeks old and we named her Tilly.

We get another second pup in 2 weeks time, this one has been raised with its mother and will be 9 weeks when we get him, his name is going to be Oska ( I like to be different!)

I once knew a bloke who had half a bee which he called Eric..................https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlrsqGal64w
(He also had a haddock which he called Eric. When asked if he didn't find this confusing he replied that only a total idiot would confuse a haddock with a half-bee).

The best dog-name I ever encountered was given to a very old, large and grumpy Bassett Hound whose favourite place for sleeping was in the middle of the road outside our house. If you went to move him he would just open one big, bloodshot eye about halfway; glare balefully at you for about ten seconds, and then close it again. I regularly saw cars mount the pavement to avoid him, rather than trying to persuade him to move. He was called 'The Colonel'.

This is our lab Polly, 10 years old with lumps and bumps all over her, but take her to a forest with areas of water and she's running around like a three year old  ;)

No mutts but two moggies: Fluffy Pussy who decide that she wanted to live with me after running way from home last year; Lucy and Benji arrived in February along with their human; unfortunately Benji has been missing for the last month and I fear the worst.

We're minding my stepson's Jack Russell cross called Winston; he wasn't meant to be a cross, we paid for 100% JR. Next door's cairn is another Eric.

Our 15 year old French black farm cat is Trouble, the same in both languages. His companions were Biggles and Tiger Moth (mother Spitfire) but they both had crash landings involving cars.
