Anglo-French Naval Co-operation
« on: October 25, 2015, 08:45:24 pm »

The Anglo-French navy consortium announces it's rousing motto in English.

'To the water.  This is the hour.'

Or, in French [said loudly for full effect], 'A l'eau, c'est l'heure.'

I think it's gone right over some heads and you have to spell it out to them.

'A l'eau, c'est l'heure.'  phonetically = 'Allo Sailor.

Now do you get it?

You have to practise by reading the book 'Mots d'heures, gousses, rames. - The d'Antin Manuscripts' to get these.

The book is nonsensical French, but 'translates' into English nursery rhymes when read aloud at a normal speed. The title is 'Mother Goose Rhymes'.

'Et qui rit des curies d'Oc?' - Hickory Dickory Dock
'Un petit d'un petit s'etonne aux Halles' - Humpty Dumpty Sat on a Wall

And so on.... this was a favourite of our French teacher at school. We'd have to translate the French properly and we'd all giggle when a visiting 'real' French teacher was asked to read the rhymes. They wouldn't get it, saying things like "C'est ridicule! It makes no sense."

A new Middle East crisis erupted last night as Dubai Television was refused permission to broadcast 'The Flintstones'.

A spokesman for the channel said 'A claim was made that people in Dubai would not understand the humour, but we know for a fact that people in Abu Dhabi Do.'

An elderly man is stopped by the police around 1 a.m. and is asked where he is going at that time of night.

The man replies, "I am going to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it has on the human body."

The officer then asks, "Really? Who is giving that sort of lecture at this time of night?"

" My wife."

The primary purpose of a bath tub is for ballast testing model boats.
I thought everyone knew that ?
