Hi all

Wonder if anyone can help.  Were the hulls of these paddle tugs riveted or welded?    I have only seen one pic which looks like the plating is lapped where it may have been riveted. 

Can anyone verify this?

The time these tugs where built, almost all British ships were riveted. But remember a lot of rivets would be counter sunk flush.
The John H Amos was riveted with most rivets flush. It is a job to tell as there are so many patches. But the rudder post has snap (domed) rivets, as dose the rudder.
Both the paddle steamers I have modeled had the plates flush rivered.

I did spend a few weeks on Forceful till Confident nudged her and put her paddles over a mooring cat and ruined 1 set of paddles.
I just cant be sure if she was welded or riveted, but other vessels of a similar age were flush riveted.

hi all

I have actually managed to source and buy Model Boats mags that contain the plans and have a few photographs of The paddletug Forceful and low and behold one of the photographs actually shows flush riveting around the bulwarks - so I presume if the riveting is around the bulwarks the rest of the hull would have been riveted as well.
