Apple TV or similar gadget
« on: November 13, 2015, 02:08:09 pm »

Hi,
I was just wondering if any other mayhemers have any experience using this type of gadget. I bought an Apple TV box from John Lewis yesterday . Spent the best part of two hours trying to get it to connect to the Internet and I tunes. Took it back this morning , tech chap tested it after a firmware update it was diagnosed as faulty. Gave me another, same problems. Doh !
They gave me an instant refund , can't fault their customer service.
I still want to watch Netflix etc on my TV , it seems a backward step to sit in front of a big screen watching a small one(iPad ).

Does anyone have any experience of using any of the alternatives , chrome cast etc ?

I use the Amazon Fire Stick without any problems, connect to the TV via HDMI

It is an Android device and so can be hacked to provide additional features.

To all intents and purposes it changes an ordinary TV into a smart TV

I just connect my iPad with a hdmi cable turns the TV into a smart TV  :-))
The adapted cable has to be an apple one in our experience to work ok about 40 beer tokens

I got a Cyclone micro pc hooked up to my TV so I can stream anything from the web inc Netflix, Sky Anytime, Youtube, streaming videos etc. It only uses 8W so running cost of about £8 per year or electricity. It's half the size of a VHS cassette - no fans so it's silent. Dual screen and 4K compatible

Not locked into any strange Android based system that can't be upgraded or goes obsolete tomorrow.

10/10 - it's awesome.

Is there any loss of picture quality ?
