Radio recommendations for Fairmile D
« on: November 15, 2015, 09:24:06 pm »

I'm getting everything together to make a start on my Deans Marine Fairmile D. I'm looking at the radio and electronic components that need to go into the hull. I've got the engines and couplings, can anyone offer me advice regarding what radio equipment and speed controller would best suit - this is my first R/C ship. I'm going to put 4 engines in the model, so I'm guessing I'll need 4 speed controllers. In addition to engine and rudder controls, I would also like to install a sound system that replicates engine noise and weapons firing. If possible, I'd also like to design and install a geared linkage that will permit me to move the gun turrets from the radio transmitter. I'm open to all advice. Which radio systems would best suit my purpose? Any diagrams anyone may have with regard to the installation and set up of the electronics/radio set up would be very welcome.

Hey Big Dog....just a suggestion  <*<......you have 3 or 4 different threads all pertaining to the one build   %%

You will find it easier for both yourself and other members [who may wish to contribute] if you combine these to one thread

So where do we start?......I like the images in other builds of the herringbone angled timber deck  :-)) which may be applicable to your build

Having ZERO knowledge on these Fairmile D vessels, a Google search did confirm 4 petrol engines & 4 propeller shafts ..the one point I could not find was the rotation of the pairs of propellers......[assuming that they were paired in the first place.....].

Would be interested to hear from other black art members on how best to control 4 motors via 4 speed controllers via R/C :o

You would probably get a  better response in recommendations for ESC's if you confirmed the electric motor selections you have chosen....the actual motor designation will also provide an indication of current consumption to battery selection and planned running times etc

You may also benefit by weighing the motors and all associated components you have to date, then confirm the displacement [weight] to the correct water line........then carefully check the weight of intended new components to ensure you can maintain the intended displacement

For my Tirpitz I have one of these..... its long discontinued sadly

The sliders between the sticks are linear controls, I've modified mine with another set of sliders on the top left upgrade panel, these operate the for and aft turrets.  Its not perfect as you only get 120degrees of rotation, but as its only 1:350 Scale and space is limited it works well enough

The only other TX with this type of control is I believe the Robbe F14/16

With regards to motor control I would mix the outer 2 motors with the rudder and the inner 2 motors running straight.
This can easily be achieved with the Action P40D

Hi ,

If you are using brushed motors you should be able to control two motors with one speed control.

In my 1/24 scale Fairmile D I used Electronize  speed controls, motors are Graupner speed 600.
