I had my heart set on a Model Slipway Yorkshireman and was about to order, I have been offered the Billing Smit Nederland kit at a very very good price.
I would be grateful for any comments and comparisons between the two before finally making up my mind

I've not had any experience with the Yorkshireman - the Billings Smit Nederland is very definitely an experienced builders kit, so I guess it's down to whether you feel comfortable with it.
 
There are a couple of threads currently running on here with regards to the Smit Nederland, including my own, so I'm somewhat biased.

Reg, the term "experienced" is used by the model kit suppliers to indicate the degree of difficulty involved to complete their models to a reasonable standard.
 
There were no build instructions with mine (good plans though) and I made a lot of mistakes on the way, finally completing the model after 5 years!
Of course, I had very little time available to me then, working away from home a lot.
 
As you will see on my thread, I'm rebuilding that same model and hoping to achieve a better standard this time around.

The kit of Yorkshireman is accompanied with a very good note, an impossible to make a mistake, and the manufacturer of the kit is very available.
I would be you I would choose Yorkshireman

Maybe the manufactures are receiving / reacting to some feedback then...

I have built both kits, they do need a bit of nows to build but common sence and a look twice if it dont fit helps, anouther thing, Neddy is a slim hull and yorkie is a tubby hull, motors batteries etc size and weight, all need consideration.


If the Neddy is a lot cheaper then go fot that, Plastic hull or Glass hull, how clumsy are you, strong youkie??????

Got carried away, (some think it shoud be permanent!!!!) mixed the neddy and the Rotterdam in hull description. Have built the Rotter as well, Needy is a slightly smaller tug if a car boot size limit is needed, also the neddy should come out slightly lighter, espesialy if you go for batteries instead of lead balast, (take out the batteries)

     From experience with a Yorkshireman they are top heavy and difficult to get the ballast right even then dodgy in windy conditions. I would go for the Smit. Hope this helps.
