Continuous rotation micro servo
« on: July 17, 2014, 09:00:10 am »

Hey folks, I'm after a couple of these for the radar on the moonraker. However I'm struggling to find them and last time (or three times) I tried to hack one of the hobbyking ones they ended up breaking. Uk based some would rather not have to buy from abroad.

They do look nice! What sort of esc would be required? The reason for using servos (if they can be sourced) is I can just run them run them off the bec.

You don't need an esc, just wire them up to a 3 volt supply ( a couple of AA batteries for example).

Looking at the data in the geared motor link, it just needs a current limiting resistor in its supply wiring to run off the BEC.  A quarter watt type (cheapest possible) of around 100 to 150 ohms will do the job.

Well I just had to.
I had a couple of the micro servos kicking around so thought "why not".
Followed the link in Martin's post and took the servo apart, modified the gear wheel and put back together.
Now I used a servo tester to test and found that if I varied the tester output until I had it turning at the speed that looked like a realistic
radar.....then took back apart and superglued the pot.....I could switch it on and off with a switch from the transmitter......so that I didn't have to guess where the pot was before gluing it up, and having an unrealistic one...if that makes sense?

I followed the link in martins post and altered a micro servo to act as a anchor winch
Lowering and raising the anchor. The beauty of the mod is the rotation end points
Are when you take your thumb off the stick.
