Newbee
« on: December 09, 2015, 12:30:07 pm »

Hi I'm Adrian from Shrewsbury, I've  just purchased this boat. I had a Mfa spearfish about 15 years ago but that was the only boat I've had.
I have extensive knowledge of radio control, but a novice with boats. Previously I have build a full size automated k9 (dr who) replica, competed with fighting robots/robotwars. My last project was restoring and converting 2 dodgem bumper cars for the kids to ride in the cul de sac.

This is the boat I purchased via eBay, it is 5 foot in length with a fibreglass hull and no internals, I It has had 2 electric motors previously which is what I'm using for power also.
I want to use it in the River Severn which runs around the town I live, a winter project to involve my sons who are 4 and 2.
Will be starting a build diary thread shortly, hoping people can offer advice.

Welcome Adrian,  With your past experience you should have no trouble with the boat, I look forward to seeing what you do with it.  :-))

Looking at the equipment iin that workshop you have the skills needed, so rebuilding this boat should pose you no problems. Look forward to following your build.

Hi ADY347

Welcome to the forum.
Like the boat.
Go brushless motors and Lipo batteries.
Far more power than the old brush motors.
E.G. 35mm(about 540 size) 3639-1100kv, 800watts will run 3blade 37mm props on 3S (11.1volts) or 4S(14.8volts).

Brushless motors require an ESC for each motor and 60amp for the motors above.
If you get an ESC which handles 3 and 4S batteries, upgrade from 3S to 4S will get you 4000rpm.
We mainly use Hobbyking car ESC's(HK-60 or HK-100) with the program card, very easy to setup.
You can get a mixer to link to the rudder to slow the inner motor down on turns.
Adding pics of a Spearfish on one 3639 motor on 3S 5800MAH battery.
