Brushless suggestions for 25" Sea Hornet
« on: December 11, 2015, 01:40:39 pm »

Hi I have an Aerokits Sea Hornet planned for the New year and it will be my first foray into brushless motors.

Can the forum suggest a suitable size motor either to run from 2S or 3S Lipo batteries.

I have 2S Lipos already running brushed motors but would by a 3S battery to run a suitable motor

ESC's are sorted.

Also prop size is likely to be 35mm 3 blade brass

Thanks

Steve

Depends on what kind of speed you're looking for. 28mm outrunner will crank that size prop easily, you don't mention prop pitch, so I've guessed it's about 1.25 x diameter. I would say as a starting point 1500-2000kv 28mm outrunner on 2s would provide good lively performance.

I'm looking for a good turn of speed and certainly getting it up on the plane.

Excuse my ignorance ,the prop is a plain brass 35mm 3 bladed "scale" prop, is that correct.   I understand what pitch is but not how to measure it  {:-{

I Finished my Sea Hornet last year(posted on model boats forum site as Sea Hornet 2015).
I am running B28-57-15L 1900kv 750watts on a 3S 2650Mah battery with a 32mm brass 2 blade prop.
Speed about 40mph.
Battery mounted behind frame B4 with the rudder servo mounted against the transom.
I off set the drive line so looking from the stern the left hand side of the prop shaft lines up with the right hand side of the rudder.
These off sets the prop torque as in the fast electric boats.
I only had a small offset on the rudder.
These boats are for calm water but are dam quick!!!!
The club members Christ it "THE BLOWFLY!!!!"
My mate had the original plans and boat which we put a B28-57-17L 1700KV 630 watt motor.
He is very happy with his boat!!!
