Australian trawler "Delta"
« on: December 17, 2015, 08:19:40 pm »

Hi there, this is the start of the other model I have been building , she is of another trawler from our home port of Brunswick Heads in N.S.W the "Delta" was built in Brunswick Heads around 1972-73 ? her size was 54'  ,so keeping to the same 1:16 scale of 3/4" to 1'  = 40.5"....
1....The middle model is the "Delta" with half her frames erected.
2... Installing the shoulder shelves, this model has a full raise deck.
3...Just checking the fairing of the frames at various areas before planking.
4...Showing her half planked alongside her girlfriend.
5...Adding another plank.

I love the servo mounting, it reminds me like Missy D's work of old wooden ships. That is a splendid piece of carpentry.

Brian,

Just a little query, in photo 0488, which shows the rear roof structure, is there any reason why the hip rafter (corner roof support)  is not over the corned stud (post).
It, the hip rafter, also does not dissect the corner angle equally.
Noticed that all the other rafters (roof supports) radiate from the centre one and get extra strength by joining with vertical supports.

Looking good. :-))

Hi Guys back again, the question you asked Raaartygunner, if the hip rafter you asked about is the one at the front quarter of the w-house, yes it doesn't sit on top of the corner upright stud, as it wouldn't have picked up the side and front roofing edge (that photo is a bit misleading) both sides of those beams had to be trimmed, in the next photo to be put up it shows the beam (hip rafter) shaped to take the side and front corner.
1...Installing the window seals.
2...fitting the false deck areas.
3 & 4...Starting to lay the decking strips ,using Lime wood 5mm x 1.5mm.
5... The last deck strip.
6...Sealing the deck with the first coat of Estapol.
7...The bulwark post ( for both models).

It'll be a shame to cover that beautiful woodwork with paint.
I'm enjoying your builds, you set very high standards.
