2016 new tug build
« on: January 05, 2016, 07:07:35 pm »

Hi All,
Happy new Year!
As I had a nice break from work over the Christmas holiday I decided to start my new build on 29/12/15.
It's going to be a tug, but can anyone guess what type of tug I'm constructing from the photo's of some of the parts?
As the build progresses I will add photo's

14 inches beam! that's one fat mother. I did think Nangee or Afon alaw but she's too wide. Good luck with the build.
           Cheers,

P.S.  That width, have you widened the hull or just cut 3 feet out of one of Brians monster hulls?

Just solder up the brass bits for the deck. The next bit will be to put the motors and shafts in along with the nozzles.

I like your tidy installation Mr Destroyer, and there is plenty of room for 'gubbins'.

Hi All,
Been a bit slow doing anything this week.
However I managed to paint the inside of the hull and re-install all the electrics. Attached the log teeth, rear roller and started work on the stacks.

Hi All,
Managed to start doing stuff to the stacks as well and my fully functioning winch.
Next instalment will be soldering the electrics up, putting in a battery shelf and adding the deck.

Your build is coming along grand , is the winch bought in or have you built it yourself , I would be interested in the diamentions or as much info as you have . I am starting to put info together for a crane / sheer leg so my Fairmount has something to pull ( don't get too exited you Fairmount builders still a bit to go ) .

Hi David 48,
The winch is a kit from Harbour models in the USA  http://www.harbormodels.com/
you can buy a motorised one as well. However I wanted something with a lot of torque so I purchased the kit and motorised it with Meccano cogs, worm drive and chain driven.
You can see it on u tube working just look for colin's winch, it has a 12lb pull. Its 3/4 scale, 1/16, dimensions are length 100mm, width 90mm, height 80mm.
You may find a post on here as well.
