I have to confess, I never did like his music even as a youth, but I admire him for what he did for music in this world. He took boring soporific pop out and gave us all something different to listen too. And it comes to something when the Royal Symphony Orchestra could do a whole show at the Royal Albert Hall based upon his music, of which I had the privilege of going to in the late 1970's
He was a true showman and someone never shy to put his avant garde showmanship on the line to further the genre of "pop rock" as against the humdrum of similar "Mersey beat" same old same old "bubblegum music"
He will be missed by many and I hope that his music will live on especially for those who loved his music. Something that I can't believe will happen with such dross as that of 5sos, One direction and the lot.
He deserves his accolade as a true inspiration to others and may he rest in peace.
A sad reflection on this will be though his new Album Black Star going to number one in the album charts, when his last one didn't quite make the grade. How fickle people are.
Jim.
