Hi Alice!

Are you looking to build a wooden yacht, a plastic kit, scratch build, something else?

Hello Alice, welcome to the Mayhem :} ...... Oo I'm tired I wrote all the stuff in green and then realised you said 'building' not 'buying' :embarrassed: I imagine we would need a little more info in order to get you started.... Eg, have you got any model building experience? Have you got the basic amount of tools and do you have somewhere to build it?
Each of these questions points to a new set of questions but will help determine a start point. No one wants to put off a beginner with in depth detail just as no one wants to talk really basic to someone with building experience.

This is the best place to get advice, not only that but there is a good chance that someone will probably have just what you are looking for and all the advice to go with it. Failing that someone will know of your nearest club, or shop or mayhemmer who can sell you one with confidence.

A couple of things to think about.

Do you already have radio equipment or do you need that as well? (Possible extra expense)
Think about transporting it to and from your place of sailing. (Can you transport it already set up or will it not fit in your car?) even small yachts can be tall when sitting on a stand.

I'm sure you will get what you need ..... Good luck and happy sailing..... U2

I have  built wooden boats and  like to have a go at a rc model about 28- inches long  with an easy RC system  either fairly ready made or to make from scratch  with a good plan and suggestions  of how to get all the pieces and necessary tools, can  you suggest a magazine or a fim that sends plans and or kits. thanks Richard  alias Alice

For a very easy to build and basic sailing yacht google   Wee Nip  , these are available as pre cut parts, free plans that you can download but need to upscale or full plans that you can buy. Various utube videos of the building. There are variations with bermudan rigs which sail much better. Our club members build and eclectic mix of sailing boats but normally there are enough Wee Nips for a race.

There was a 25" yacht published as a free plan in the early '90s called "Akela".  It, or something very like it, has re-surfaced as the "XL25" on http://www.sealevel.demon.nl/english/downloadsXL25modelyacht.htm
It is a fairly simple design, a sheet for each side, a bottom sheet and a deck.  Most model yachts just use two channels, one for steering and the other to control the sail(s).

Hi Alice, for something unusual but very good at sailing, you could try a Banana Boat! http://www.nigancraft.com/model-boats/banana-boat

I helped my 11 year old daughter build one last year and neither of us were disappointed with the outcome or the sailing ability of it. It is a very good starting point.

Hi Alice, there is a very nice plan called Panache in the Model Boat plans list many have been built and it is very simple at 30 inches long.  The main sail has a sleeve or very large hem that slides over the main mast.  Simple RC sails and rudder and these days you can buy a high powered standard size servo that will control the sails.  I have two and have parted with another a few years ago.
Hope this helps,
Roy
