High Klunk and others we are further north and it is a lot colder.Hence thicker ice only good for hovercraft.See club events Sunday at Kirklees.

Black (or was it White) Park Lake looked like a Christmas Card today, with kids playing snowballs.  No ice, and was darned cold, but a lovely couple of hours sailing none the less.

This is what we found this morning lake frozen over very little colour everything grey or white. Thick ice only fit for things that skim above the ice.

You need to be careful breaking ice like that. I sunk my Billings Smit Nederland doing this. When making the hull I decided that the original moulded anchor recesses had too rounded corners due to the vacforming process. I cut them out and replaced them with styrene sheet which looked much better. Unfortunately the anchor recesses are right on the waterline and the ice pushed one of them in breaking the joint to the hull. Only noticed this when  it started getting lower in the water and I couldn't get it back to shore on time. Luckily our pond is not too deep so it was easy to recover but wading in freezing water is no fun even with waders.
One of our members used a small coaster with balsa block bows to break ice. It came in with deep gouges in the bows.

It was drizzly and cool with nothing frozen so I got my Biccu Tug out for a tootle about and 'Father' (Brian, our Chairman) got his airboat out for a whizz. After twenty minutes of that nonsense, we went up to the pub and had coffee!

The fishing boat at about 1:23.... Is that one of those Cold War Russian "Trawlers"? had a fair turn of speed for a fishing boat lol

Bury was completely frozen today, probably half an inch of ice so too much even for the typhoon! Hopefully I can bring it back when the ice has melted a little

Went up to Whitely Lake some time ago, it had ice on it on one half, Ship mate 60's boat got stuck in it, I had a large TID tug then, put that in the water and with its cut away bow, it turned out to be an ideal ice breaker. It lifted up and smashed its way through the ice with ease, unfortunately Bobs boat was of balsa construction and came of worse.
