Help...total novice.
« on: January 17, 2016, 05:57:02 pm »

Hi all,

I am in desperate need of anybody's help. On the spur of the moment, while at a furniture auction, I bid, and one, a model yacht. I just loved the look of it!!! and now I would like to try and restore it to its former glory, but do not know the first thing about them.
Mainly it is the terminology of all the bits. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Ideally a picture of a boat/yacht and a name list of all the bits. The yacht measures appx. 30" length and has two sails but looks like it should be more. The yacht does not look very new I would guess about 1950ish. Some photos attached.
Thank you for any assistance you may be able to give.

Welcome to the Mayhem SB6?

Can you post photos of the yacht?

You should get in touch with the Vintage Model Yacht group http://www.vmyg.org.uk/ as they have the experts on yachts of this age.
As a start you are missing the rudder and the foresail (jib). Without a photo of the deck it is not possible to see if it had a bowsprit fitted or if there was any form of self steering gear on the rudder.
