Three collisions, and not a man on deck?
Could someone not have shut down the engines before
the first collision and then radio for assistance?

My God there is so much wrong on so many levels here, hope whoever was on bridge had a coronary or something! Then the deck crew carrying on aft as though nothing was wrong {-)

Then the name of the ship -Psalm 1, hope somebody was saying a prayer along the quayside :D Only after it came to an almost stop did anyone seem to be anywhere remotely near the bridge, even then I convinced it was dock workers who had climbed aboard rather than the crew.

I think this has been on here before hasn't It?

I'm sure it was an engine problem, they couldn't get it stopped and had tried to hit the dock in hope of stopping it.

Goodness  ok2   the vessels name is Psalm 1.....so when we research the name we find

Psalm 1 is the first of the Psalms in the Hebrew Bible. Like many of the psalms, it contrasts the "righteous" person (tzadik צדיק) to the "wicked" or "ungodly" (rasha` רשע) or the "sinner" (chatta' חטא). The righteous person is one who takes care to know the laws of God and so has good judgment and avoids bad company.

.....I do hope our Moderators do not see this as a Religious slant to my post........... Derek

This is an absolute prime example of what happens when you just go onto the water without first checking who is using your frequency :-)

^^ Aberdeen 2011 , from memory I think they had been testing the engines ( controllable pitch props set to 0/neutral ) when there was a failure in the prop control system jamming them in 100% ahead.... might've been an idea to hit the engine cut off a little bit quicker than they did too...

Still not as bad as..

Having hit the quay the first time, why didn't they go hard a starboard to get the tug back into open water and then warn everything in its path until they could stop?

And surely there was some way to shut the engines down - was there an engineer down below, maybe language/translation issues, or sheer blind panic all round?

You know, watching all this mayhem (ahem!) with large vessels, will make me feel much less of a prat when I do the same thing with my models!  O0

I remember a true tale about a RFA Rover class tanker at Chatham. As she was coming out of the locks into the basin, she suffered a C.P. shaft failure, she locked into slow ahead as default setting for CP props. No one noticed the pilot asked for astern, but she carried on and before anyone noticed what was wrong, it was too late she rammed HMS Triumph moored in the basin pocket and broke several of her mooring wires, I think it was Gold Rover.. Another one was when the last paddler in Portsmouth finished her last job she moored up in the Basin for the Port Admiral to ceremoniously ring off her engines for the last time when the Confiance came in, suffered a CP prop failure and went to slow ahead, before they could stop her engines, she rammed the paddler and smashed up her paddle box.

Dave,
The paddler (cant remember which one) was going to be used on HMS Invincible's first entry to Portsmouth.
But Confident put paid to that!!!

Long time ago, slept too many times since, told the story when I joined Pompey in the mid 1980's. I will go to Facebook and ask the lads in the Portsmouth RMAS page for the names.
