Alclad is amazing stuff when properly applied. I have used various aluminium finishes and the chrome paint which really is mirror like when applied.
Here is a P-38 Lightning I built a few years ago. This was airbrushed in polished aluminium Alclad and it required a high gloss, black base coat. This was done with Humbrol enamel paint thinned a bit.
Next up was the polished aluminium which is airbrushed straight from the bottle. A little goes a long way as it doesn't require lots of coats, just a light dusting.
Off course no plane in service would have been that shiny so a bit of weathering was needed after.
It's well worth a try if you have an airbrush.
