One of my greatest amusements is that almost every time I sail my HMS Skirmisher someone points to it and says "Look, the Titanic !"  Black hull, three buff funnels seem to be enough for a positive ID.  Occasionally a passer by will claim it is a "Battleship" instead, which makes a change and is at least closer.
Of course these are usually followed by the inevitable two questions "Did you make it yourself?" and "How much did it cost?".

I think I once met your brother, sitting on the kerbside with a fishing rod held out into the traffic.
To humour him, an old lady asked him how many he'd caught.
"You're the fifth" he said.

(They don't tell 'em like that any more.....well, not often)

Many kinds of wildfowl inhabit my sailing venue. Once a small girl approached me and asked in the most perfect English 'What are you doing? ' pointing at my radio. I explained to her in what I thought was the way to explain the workings of R/C to a possible 7 year old. she replied, 'Thank you, but I understand you perfectly', at which I was a bit startled. To change the subject, I pointed to the lake saying, 'Look at that Mother duck and all her baby ducks following her',  and she gave a huge sigh and said. 'Ectually, they are goslings!'  Put me in my old man place that did!  %)

Klunk, how very, very  true! The other old chestnut as I got yesterday, whilst lugging my 35 pound Atlantis from the car-park to the waters edge and struggling to erect my sails, rigging and masts in a breeze - 'Are you going to put it in the water?'

when ever i bring out a submarine...

always, very first question...

"you mean it really goes under water?"

followed by "how deep will it go?"

then "does it fire torpedoes?"

You get a better class of punter! We get "Does it sink mister?"
" No my young whipper snapper, the correct term is 'submerge'"

I then get a well deserved torrent of abuse for being a stuck up t*t!

Last summer three of us were sitting on our plastic chairs at the lakeside playing with our boats, watching the ducks and generally saying nothing to each other. A young lady, with a French accent, walks past, looks at us, grins, and asks "Last of the Summer Wine?"

Before I even got it rigged yesterday a man asked 'What range does it have?' To which I gave my usual reply, 'About 3 miles'    O0

Another classic which I am sure I am not alone in being asked - 'What do you do if it gets stuck in the middle'. My usual response is always 'In the middle of what?'

the best I have had was whilst doing a viking re-enactment, cooking a chicken over an open fire on a spit - someone came up and asked - is that plastic?
